It's easier for me to keep all the information about lessons, group classes, and the library performance in one location at this point, so please refer to www.thestringbeans.blogspot.com from now on.

Thursday's Performance
On Thursday, we will be playing the songs on the list below. Please note the following instructions:
Thank you for all your hard work this semester! It's been a joy to make music with you. :)
If you are interested in having a month of free lessons in June to make up for missed time throughout the year, please contact me so I can put you on the schedule. You can find all the information you need in the previous blog post. I have not yet heard from the parents of: Ariel/Austin, Makell/Jaden, Zachary, or Sam about this. Please let me know if you're going to be doing this or not, so I can stop pestering you! Thank you! :)
- Bring your violin to the sanctuary on Thursday morning and leave your case open with your shoulder rest on and your bow tightened. I will tune your violin for you. When it's time for you to play, you can get your violin from it's case and bring it to the front of the sanctuary.
- If you're a tall person, please stand near the wall. If you're a short person, please stand near the front of the group.
- When you're not playing, your violin needs to be in rest position
- If it's a song you know, you'll join the group for that song.
- If it's a song you don't know, you'll sit down for that song.
- If you're sharing a violin with a sibling, please decide for yourselves who will be playing which song(s), and make sure you're standing next to each other on Thursday so that you can hand the violin to your sibling at the appropriate time.
- Cuckoo
- Lightly Row
- Song of the Wind
- Go Tell Aunt Rhody
- Mayo Morrins
- Glenorchy Grizzle

Apologies!
I thought I had been posting updates here, but now realized I had just "saved" the posts without publishing them! Oh, dear. I apologize!
First of all though, please allow me to offer you some free extra violin time. I feel as though I owe all of the MGA students some extra violin time because I've been out with sick kids a few times, and on vacation for a few weeks. This all adds up to you not getting what you signed up for, and I'd like to make that right. If you are interested in some one-on-one violin time for your kiddo, please contact me so we can arrange it. We can do a private lesson at my house, at MGA sometime (if a time works out), via Skype (this is not ideal but a possibility), or possibly at your house. There is no charge or obligation for this - I just want to make up for missed violin time, and there are many, many students who I think would benefit from a situation where we could focus on individual issues in a non-group setting.

2/28/11 violin notes for each class
C and D CLASSES:
Refer to the image above (click on it to make it larger) to be reminded of what we covered in class today.
1. TWINKLE VARIATIONS: all of the variations should be EASY for you to play. Next week, I will ask you simple questions (like, "what is your name" or "do you have a sister?") while you are playing. If you cannot answer a simple question while you are playing a variation, then it is not yet EASY enough for you and you need to practice it more. You should practice each not-yet-easy variation at least 5 times a day.
2. CUCKOO: The notes to Cuckoo are hidden inside Lightly Row (yellow boxes in the image above).
3. LIGHTLY ROW: Every single day, you should:
- listen to Lightly Row on the CD (track 40)
- sing the notes names to Lightly Row while the CD is playing. (Can you hear the four sections of the song? Which ones are the same? Which one is similar to the others but not the same? Which one is completely different?)
- without the CD, play the notes to the song one little section at a time. Go slowly.
E CLASS:
- Song of the Wind (track 46)
- Snow and Wind on the A String (track 49)
- Go Tell Aunt Rhody: Exercises in Musical Notation (no audio for this one)
- Go Tell Aunt Rhody (track 51)
Continue practicing Song of the Wind until it feels truly EASY to play. If it's not yet EASY, then you need to practice it more. To give you some perspective, I'll note that Gretchen (age 5) practices Song of the Wind 5 times (with repeats) per day.
Here is Song of the Wind from your book. There was some confusion in class about what book I was talking about - this is the book that everyone has been using since September, called Step by Step 1A by Kirsten Wartberg. If you do not have this book, you need it for this class. I will not continue to post pages from the book online because it is a violation of copyright.
DETAILS ABOUT "SNOW AND WIND" ON THE A STRING:
Use lightning bows for this one - make your violin sound like the one on the CD.
DETAILS ABOUT GO TELL AUNT RHODY: EXERCISES IN MUSICAL NOTATION:
Go Tell Aunt Rhody: Exercises in Musical Notation:
DETAILS ABOUT GO TELL AUNT RHODY:
Every day, you should do the following:
- listen to Go Tell Aunt Rhody (track 50 or 51)
- play along with the CD, but only use open E. Match the rhythms of the melody.
- look carefully at the notes in the book for this song, and slowly try to play the song (without the CD)
